Resolutions? Goals? Reality …. {Monday Motivation}
Two full weeks into 2016. How are those resolutions coming along? I decided a few years ago that I was ditching the ‘r word’ (resolutions) and embracing ‘goals’ instead. Much more reasonable in my opinion. Semantics? Maybe. Blame it on middle age. Blame it on laziness. Whatever.
I’m kind of a realist, I think.
Or lazy.
Either way…..
I stumbled on to a post that got me thinking about the goals I’ve set for myself this year – incorporating both writing and art. In her post at Live to Write – Write to Live, contributing writer, Diane MacKinnon, shares her self-assessment on her “WIGs” for 2015, as she welcomes 2016.
What are WIGs?, you ask. I wondered, too…. and found myself laughing out loud and nodding in interest at her definition. I also found myself completely absorbed in her honest self-assessment and thoughts on progress vs. attainment. She writes, “In fact, each one of these goals was amazingly ambitious. And I didn’t accomplish most of them.” #RealityCheck for some us? For me, definitely. (Thank you, Diane!)
Sooooo…… now that we’re past those first few days of people’s New Year’s life-altering, must-do-it, this-is-gong-to-be-my-year goal-setting, here’s my take on realistic goal-setting…..
Where do you want to be in ten years? What will life look and sound like? An age-old exercise – worth a revisit from time to time?

Will a little change make a difference?
Darn right it will!!! 🙂
In case you need a nudge….

In the spirit of WIGs, have you set your BHAGS yet??

Hope it’s a most excellent Monday for you!
🙂

This is fitting for what I posted today because one of my 2016 goals was to spend less time on social media. I’m not where I need to be yet, but I’m working on it.

Carrie,
Was thinking the same as I read your post today. I think we find our way as move forward with purpose…. 🙂

Love that your images are as interesting as your words, Robin. I don’t have resolutions anymore. But I have words. This year’s: simplicity, discipline, consistency 🙂
